How We're Improving

Protecting Our Environment: Improve Water Quality

Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Process

BNR replaces old technologies such as trickling filters, removing higher levels of organic matter, ammonia, nitrogen, and phosphorus to meet current and future regulatory requirements and eliminating filter flies and reducing odors.

Benefits of Digestion

Recovered heat from digestion process used to heat process and building. Solids currently sent to landfills can be digested and applied to land as fertilizer. With the completion of the Nelson Wastewater Treatment Facility improvements the JCW goal of 100% land application will be realized.

Odor Control

Adding odor control technologies reduces unpleasant odors in the neighborhood, provides a safer workplace and extends equipment life. These odor control systems use fans to collect foul air from areas of concern such as primary clarifiers and solids facilities and route the air to odor control canisters for treatment.
